Refuge is an intra-church organization who empowers local churches to embrace refugees in Louisville and beyond.
In the West, our traditional understanding of the church’s global mission has assumed that we must travel overseas to lost and forgotten peoples. More than ever before, however, our globalized world is constantly migrating. One of the most significant movements of peoples is due to violence and persecution, causing millions to flee across international borders as refugees. Thousands of refugees are being resettled here in the United States, making many of those lost and forgotten peoples our next door neighbors. Thus, local churches have an amazing opportunity to participate in God’s global mission in their own cities. Many churches are hesitant to embrace refugees—not because they don’t care—but because it’s complex. Refuge exists to simplify the process, connecting churches with refugees in tangible ways. We believe that refugees need local churches, but also that local churches need refugees. Abiding relationships between the two groups truly has the capacity to change the world.
