OUR BELIEFS

  • We believe in and affirm the authority and power of the Bible, the explained purpose of God, the uniqueness and universality of Christ, in evangelism, Christian social responsibility, discipleship, the reality of spiritual warfare; freedom of worship, the power of the Holy Spirit, and the return of Christ.
  • We affirm that there is one eternally existent God, Creator and Ruler of the world, existing in 3 persons; the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, who governs all things according to the purpose of his will. He has, in and of Himself, all perfections, and is infinite in them all. To Him all creatures owe the highest love, reverence, and obedience.
  • We affirm the divine inspiration, truthfulness, and authority of both Old and New Testament Scriptures in their entirety as the only written word of God, without error in all that it affirms, and the only infallible rule of faith and practice. It is to be understood by all through the illumination of the Holy Spirit, its meaning determined by the historical, grammatical, and literary use of the author’s language, comparing Scripture with Scripture.
  • We affirm that God originally created man in His own image, and free from sin; but, through the temptation of Satan, man transgressed the command of God, and fell from his original holiness and righteousness; whereby he inherited a nature corrupt and wholly opposed to God and His law. As a result all men are under condemnation, and as soon as they are capable of moral action, become actual transgressors.
  • We affirm that Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God, is fully God and fully man. Having taken upon Himself human nature, yet without sin, He perfectly fulfilled the law and suffered and died upon the cross for the salvation of sinners. He was buried, rose again the third day, and ascended to His Father, at whose right hand He ever lives to make intercession for His people. As the reigning Lord he now offers the forgiveness of sins to all who repent and believe.
  • We affirm that though everyone has some knowledge of God through his general revelation in nature, we deny that this can save. We reject every kind of syncretism that implies that Christ speaks equally through all religions and ideologies.
  • We affirm that the Church is God’s appointed means of spreading the gospel. Evangelism is the proclamation of the historical, biblical Christ as Savior and Lord, with a view to persuading people to come to him personally and so be reconciled to God. This is both necessary and urgent as all those who reject Christ repudiate the joy of salvation and condemn themselves to eternal separation from God.
  • We affirm that the fruit of true conversion will include increasing obedience to Christ, incorporation into his Church, and responsible service in the world. This is not to say that works save us, but that Christ has made us for good works, and they bare testimony that we are genuinely His.
  • We affirm that in issuing the gospel invitation we have no liberty to conceal the cost of discipleship. Jesus calls all who would follow him to deny themselves, take up their cross, and identify themselves with His new community.
  • We affirm that God is both the Creator and the Judge of all people. We therefore share his concern for justice and reconciliation throughout human society and for the liberation of men and women from every kind of oppression. Every person, regardless of race, religion, color, culture, class, sex or age, has an intrinsic dignity because of which he or she should be respected and served, not exploited.
  • We affirm that the church is the community of God’s people rather than an institution, and must not be identified with any particular culture, social or political system, or human ideology.
  • We affirm that missionaries should flow ever more freely from and to all six continents in a spirit of humble service. The goal should be, by all available means and at the earliest possible time, that every person will have the opportunity to hear, understand, and to receive the good news of Jesus Christ.
  • We affirm that the desired result of our missionary endeavors is to see the rise of churches deeply rooted in Christ and closely related to their culture. The gospel does not presuppose the superiority of any culture, but evaluates all cultures according to its own criteria of truth and righteousness, and insists on moral absolutes in every culture.
  • We affirm that we are engaged in constant spiritual warfare with the principalities and powers of evil, who are seeking to overthrow the Church. We know our need to equip ourselves with God’s armor and to fight this battle with the spiritual weapons of truth and prayer. We need both watchfulness and discernment to safeguard the biblical gospel.
  • We affirm the power of the Holy Spirit. Conviction of sin, faith in Christ, and Christian growth are all His work. He applies the work of Christ to believers and distributes spiritual gifts to each one for the purpose of building up the body of Christ.
  • We affirm that Jesus Christ will return personally and visibly, in power and glory, to consummate his salvation and his judgment. We believe that the interim period between Christ’s ascension and return is to be filled with the mission of the people of God. Our Christian confidence is that God will perfect his kingdom, and we look forward with eager anticipation to that day, and to the new heaven and earth in which righteousness will dwell and God will reign forever.
